SRF Meteo

Schweizer Radio und Fernsehen

Overview

SRF was faced with the challenge of revising and modernising the appearance of its meteorological brand - SRF Meteo. The existing visual identity was outdated and no longer met the requirements for a contemporary design that would be convincing both on television and on digital platforms.

The focus of my task in the project was on redesigning the weather icons. The established design language had to be moderately iterated and transformed into a contemporary look without losing the essential brand attributes of the realistic-looking icons. I worked closely with the design and development team to ensure that the icons were not only aesthetically pleasing, but also functional and easy to understand.

The new icons were optimised for use on different screen sizes to ensure a consistent and appealing display on TVs, computers, tablets and smartphones. The focus was on ensuring that the icons were easily recognisable and presented the weather conditions clearly and concisely. Two different icon sets were developed for the digital application: One for the so-called dark mode and one for the light mode to ensure optimal legibility on backgrounds of different light colours.
